I loved this game because it's kinda simple but complicated at the same time, The mech fighting is awesome, the graphics i still like to this day and it's just one of those games i kept in my collection since the 90's like Total annihilation and even deadlock 2. My personal hope is these games will continue to run in windows 11 and let's be honest, windows 12, 13, 14 etc. Come on, Give it a go, i know you want to. ;)
I remember playing this when it first came out with friends over LAN and was great fun. You may have to turn the game speed down as i reckon it's better going slower and being more strategic than fast Command & Conquer like. I found that you lose sound all together if you turn the music off for some strange reason, I usually play with my stereo going listening to Jennifer Warnes "first we take Manhattan" as the music fits with it imo. Single player is still fun enough and has some replay value as even if you know where an attack is going to come from, You could maybe prepare for it better second/third time round. Also while you're at it pick up the first one as well, both Sudden strike 1 & 2 are great games even if the second game has some quality of life improvements over the first. Hope you enjoy them.
Please remember that if you got a hold of an old copy of Z you probably wouldn't be able to play it without serious dos boxing and work arounds, This is a more playable version and no doubt future updates might address some of the conrols. No multiplayer and only 20 levels with no skirmish but hey - Even the original wasn't perfect. 4 stars and if a update sorts some of the minors out then it'll get 5.
