Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Exactly what I hoped for.

Scratched that SotN itch that has been around for a while. BTW, If you get a freezing black screen on launch, try renaming the Movies folder. That worked for me: Bloodstained Ritual of the Night\BloodstainedRotN\Content\Movies

Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight OST

256kbps CBR Mp3's

Impressive if it were still 2003 and I had to fit everything on my Rio500. The general public have moved on to streaming services and a lack of ownership. In my experience, people who want to buy and own a soundtrack want something lossless. You know, something worth owning. I'd rather have paid $10 for flac.

Owlboy

Pretty darn good.

And the price-point feels good too. About 7-8 hours in (i dont rush, though). I am in love with the sprites. The animation is perfect. The writing was odd in the beginning, but things are starting to be revealed and making sense. I also recommend the soundtrack, but check to see if the version on bandcamp.com is better for you. - - - -- - - My only gripes, might be considered light spoilers: 4/5 stars for 2 things.....1) the monkeys; they currently dont make sense and are very annoying. 2) The level design is losing it's creativity around the Lava level (which is a floating landmass above the cities) ....and then travelling a short walk to snow level, which reconnects to plant level on the other side of a waterfall? So i think snow level is more beneath the flowing lava level...it was a confusing boss and I was literally getting motionsick from circle spinning.

Tower of Guns

Need's more "umph".

Only played maybe 2 hours. I love the art style and concept. The gameplay was pretty fun. I was also a little excited at the starting screen to see the gun/perk choices hinting at many different playthroughs. But....The whole experience felt muted. Literally; the sound effects for the gunshots were so weak, I had to intentionally focus on that through the music to figure out if my gun was working. And even then, it wasn't much. My own guns lacked any kind of satisfaction when fired. No model movement of the pizza gun. No recoil of the cannons. Nothing giving any impact to the bullets. They seriously could be paper from all other presentation. So I did have fun with the game, but without the impact of the guns, I just ended up tired. Seriously had to stop and get coffee because I just felt like taking a nap. I think this could be fixed, but I dont know if the developers have interest this late in the game. I would point to great examples of Killing Floor 1 and 2 or the Red Orchestra games. Even with the same maps over and over, the satisfaction of firing the weapons kept me awake and playing over and over. This should have been a top priority for a game about guns. Maybe it's just a problem with the Linux version? dont know.

Stardew Valley

Great fun! but consider Steam version.

A fun game that consumes my time. Really scratches that Harvest Moon itch. Two gripes, though.... 1) Really difficult to immerse with the character. IRL I am in my 30's, I started the game thinking I was ambiguously an adult, but it seems that (through game events and dialogue of being called a kid) I am early 20's (able to drink in a saloon though, so over 21)? and the only "single" girls are portrayed as still K12 age (except for penny)? The women that are interesting to me are all not available. Some do not have partners, so it is clear that an age gap is the reason. Sad. Guess I'm playing a loner and have to ignore story elements. 2) Really debated this vs. the steam version in the beginning, but now regretting the GoG purchase: it seems the GoG version is 2 patches behind! I am certain I have the 1.0.5 version, but steam is a month ahead with 1.0.7. You can't see this in game, but the file properties plus comparing patch notes with features in the GoG version confirms ver1.0.5924 as of 5APR. WTF.

To The Moon

How is this considered good?

A game that is desperately trying to be deep and moody, is held to the ground and beaten mercilessly by shoe-horned Adam Sandler dialogue. Controls: Acceptable Music: Good Graphics: RPGMaker Story: Flimsy Notes to the creators [If they happen to be reading]: - Hospice related workers that are unprofessional and disrespectful toward the client/patient are usually fired. - People who make it a job to help others do not treat people they help as burdens. - Young children do not all talk like the kids in Talladega Nights. - Mementos should have had descriptions of WHY they were important. A little effort here would have really helped the story. - The random shouting of "HADOOKEN" during dramatic moments was not acceptable. - The single Final Fantasy style encounter with the squirrel was not acceptable. - Do not use names from Sci-Fi characters to name people in a somewhat modern time. - *SPOILER* Building a two story [+basement] stone mansion is not cheap, even though the elderly man did it by hand in two years. So, having the wife demand one built [or she would refuse expensive treatments] is a poor plot when they argue that they could barely afford the treatment. I did not finish the game. Like a bad movie, I walked away...
