What can I say that's not been said in other reviews? Mafia II is a classic and I have nothing more to add to the conversation about this. HOWEVER If you wish to augment/fix your GOG.com version of the game here's some hidden gems: 1) Mafia II - "Epilogue" https://youtu.be/grNAbJa91jg 2) Mafia II - "Free Roam" https://youtu.be/tuS3eDJTG6A 3) Mafia II - "Uncut Radio" https://youtu.be/ZAmwQ8jFp8k 4) Mafia II - "Trainer Mod Menu" https://youtu.be/TTDuRSFJd4Q 5) Mafia II - "Happy Hour (Drunk Mod)" https://youtu.be/debSlSGFy2w
I'll keep this review short and honest (GTA comparisons are completely irrelevant): PROS: + Great soundtrack. + Great voiceacting and characters (Vito Scaletta, protagonist from MAFIA II is here, plus some surprises). + Great gunplay. + Good story-missions. + Good customization. + Unique and beautiful buildings. + Nice DLC, fixes some pacing issues. + Collectibles. CONS/MIXED OPINIONS: - Unstable graphics (Game runs well on a decent PC, medium settings, 60 FPS cap). - You will encounter bugs. - Dumb NPCs. * Driving physics (I personally love it). * Lots of driving (see above point). * Repetitive/grindy content: depends on the player whether he's invested enough to grind missions. * Pacing issues (see DLC point). * Some people feel like the Mafia is being underused or not really the main focus of the game. Same goes for Vito. CONCLUSION: While the game's far from perfect, if you're like me you'll easily pour in 30+ hours into MAFIA III. If the game launched in its' current state I'd rate it a 7.8/10. My theory is that the publishers made Hangar13 rush the game, ruining the launch. I have a gut feeling that the devs can nail the release of MAFIA: Definitive Edition and successfully revive this series. Good luck to them and hopefully GOG.com can do their magic and bring this complete franchise DRM-FREE!
I just got the whole Dishonored franchise for 21€. This is incredible. It's almost a decade ago I first played Dishonored and absolutely loved it, the artstyle, the setting, the combat system, the music and so on. When Dishonored 2 came out I was nervously waiting to play it. In the end, Denuvo made me completely lose interest. Now it's 2020, and I got the complete franchise on GOG, DRM free!!! I'm excited to jump into Dishonored 2 for the first time and explore this beautiful universe once again. Thank you, Arkane Studios, and keep being the best, GOG/CDPR!
