Grim Dawn

A Diamond In The Rough!

I came across Grim Dawn on a whim, and the very moment that I turned it on and got into the world, I was enraptured. First off, I have played Diablo-Type genre games before. I gave up on Diablo 3 way back when because of the Online Only requirement that was being demanded on... ahem... 'Blizzard'... *shivers*. That and the experience was tarnished for me, because the VERY moment I got to play Diablo 3 with friends, they failed to tell me they were high levels and they power-washed me through. Needless to say, I was skeptical *ever* getting back into a Hack-&-Slash/Diablo-Esque genre. Until Grim Dawn. Grim Dawn completely changed my perspective on this genre, and the fact there is so much customization and branching into your own kind of slaughter'ific character, factions, ARPG Reputation systems, bounties, a full fledge loot system, ragdoll applied to enemies killed, etc etc? It's very hard not to be immediately charmed by this game when given the chance. I know many games have attempted the formula this game was born from, but Grim Dawn is a staple that I feel is going to completely redefine the genre. Not to sound too bold, but... no, I'll sound bold! Sticking with my guns here. Pro's and Con's are something that is different for everyone when they play this game for the first time, I think, so providing that input wouldn't do much good since it's subjective. But what I will say is this. I've never sat down and put 7+ hours into a game like this before. *Ever*. That alone is worthy of immense praise. The Voice Actors (in which I aspire to be one someday) are very good especially. I can see and hear just how dedicated this writing is, and each npc I've come across feels genuine and likeable. I'm currently running a Dual-Dagger character using the Nightblade and Arcanist classes, but then when I saw there was even *teeechnically* a third class, called Devotions? My mind exploded. The possibilities are endless. TL;DR, trust me on this, it's awesome. 5 stars
