.. but I can't. It's a well crafted game. Props to the developers, but so much of the symbolism feels just a bit off and the end was more confusing than anything else. Playing this certainly won't be a waste of time and maybe you will enjoy it dearly, but it just somehow wasn't really the right mix for me.
Paradox interactive has the capability of creating great, fun games. But then they rip them apart to sell back to you as DLCs at 20+€ each. It's just not worth it. Especially after considering that they not only stuff content behind Paywalls, which would be understandable, but also Quality of Life features, which almost amount to bugfixes. If you buys this game you will be happy at first, but then you will feel the dread of being ripped off. Screw Paradox (Bought and played on steam)
So I played this back on PS4, but still want to leave a review here as my critique is mostly platform-unrelated. I found the game to be quite lacking in a number of atributes. The most annoying thing was the worldbuilding. There are some very different nations with kind of interesting stories to them, yet everything looks the same. They have the exact same buildings copypasted into every town, which there aren't many of. The world feels empty and you spend a lot of time walking around. There rarely is a real thing going on with your party and you never have to make hard decisions. Never? Not quite. In the very End there is one, so if you want to stay 100% Spoiler free, stop reading here, but I will try to write this without spoilers as much as possible. Basically you decide between old and new, or that's what I thought. However it seems to be intended more like a moral choice. It's at the very end, so it doesn't affect the game at all. Just the aftercredit scene and that one shows, that nothing in the game really matters. You choose the one thing, all is fine, you choose the other, all your friends die, everyone hates you, all is going to crap. This just retroacteviley ruined the last bit of respect I had for this game.
Played this on PS4 and I was thoroughly disappointed. It may just be because I wnated different things from the Game than it tried to offer, but the whole world felt bland to me. The Decisions are basically meaningless in the wider story and the ending is just not well written. All Cities basically look the same and a lot of buildings are just copy and paste. Overall I would not recommend.
It's really fun to play, especially since it has that special sense of discovery, but it does get kinda dull towards the end, once you have seen pretty much everything, optimized all your gear and survival strategy and only have to chew through the last few miles. Some more sidequests on that part might have helped. Just know, this game is fun to play once (should buy especially in sale) and doesn't really have a super high replayability. Also minor bugs.
So I finished this game and i got to say. it was quite fun. Bought this in sale for about 1€. When Playing you really have to lose a "everything's got to go perfect" mentality. Sometimes RNG might screw you over and you really can't please every faction all the time.
