The best way to play Swat 4, in my opinion. There are other mods but they're usually based off of Elite Force, and I prefer Elite Force for it's feeling of being Vanilla+. I'd definitely recommend anyone use Elite Force, even first time players, it's just that good and doesn't stray off the original developer's vision.
The story is good so far, I think. Only about an hour and a half in. The gameplay however.. The bows feel bad to use, and are kinda useless compared to the other weapons anyway Muskets and similar are okay, they work but they feel basic and unsatisfiying to use The combat in general feels more like a chore personally than anything to look forward to The exploration and movement is pretty lifeless but it's made somewhat interesting by what you can find lying around There's no voice acting or anything and overall it feels like a low budget indie game made on Unity, but with more direction and polish than an asset flip at least. You can tell the developers put their heart into it, so I can't say it's soulless or a cash grab (at the time of it being paid) at least. Some of the art within the journal is actually quite pleasing to look at. I'd give it a 2.5 out of 5 stars if I could, a mediocre game with some redeeming elements, but personally not enough for me to really want to finish it myself. The final straw personally was when I got stuck on some random object and had to kill myself with bombs to get out of it, getting sent back to the place I came from in the first place, meaning i'd have to walk back to the other area and I was also out of some of the items I collected. I just uninstalled it after that. But for the price of literally nothing, I can't complain and am glad this game will be preserved on GOG from now on. I did like the graphical style with the black and white, and the game concept does feel unique, if only it were better executed, I can't imagine paying their original asking price of $15 or $20 at the time for this. Give it a try, no real reason not to. Maybe you'll like it better. Personally, I'd rather go back to the developer's older works and play F.E.A.R. instead. That game is a lot better than this one if you ask me, even if it'll cost you a few bucks.
