I am a huge fan of the Broken Sword series as they were amongst my favourite games as a child on the Playstation. When I saw that Revolution were trying to fund a remake with updated visuals and modern mechanics I had to back it and well, here we are! This game retains all the charm of the original and plays just as I remembered with the updated 4k artwork being gorgeous. With a tab of the Tab button you can return to the old school look of 1996 but it doesn't look as good as I recalled from back then, so the new visuals are the way to go. The sound and music is the same as the original and has been cleaned up as best as possible but there are some lines of dialogue which are particularly noisy as a result, but don't detract from the gameplay that much. The game also provides hints that can help you when and if you get stuck and has two modes. Original which has manual hand holding and story which makes key interactions and objects handily highlighted onscreen to reduce potential frustration. In closing this is a brilliant game, well worth your time. Let's hope that the Smoking Mirror gets the same treatment.
I've played this game on the PS3 when it first came out, then picked up the definitive edition on PS4 and lastly, the PC GOTY edition a few weeks ago. The game runs great on my windows 11 PC, with a couple of mods to enhance the lighting and port over the higher quality videos from the PS4 version. Had a couple of random game freezes, but nothing major. Would recommend to any Tomb Raider fan who is yet to give this gem a try.
