This was such a delightful game to play! The characters are cute, the plot is intriguing, and the UI was clean and easy to use. Don't let the fluffy artwork fool you, it IS possible to die many times throughout the story, though most of the deaths are off-screen and there is never any gore. Luckily the game is very forgiving and provides you a story branch so you can quickly select a scenario and replay the route. The mystery leads up to a big conspiracy that is really fun to unravel, and I enjoyed watching the bad endings as well for how unexpected (and kind of funny) some of them are. This is a great cozy game that'll take you a couple hours to finish, and can be played with/by older kiddos too!
The first Remothered had a tough enemy AI and could be punishing, but overall it was an enjoyable experience (as a horror fan). Unfortunately I think this one missed the mark for me. The story seemed janky, and I didn't particularly care for any of the characters (or their aliases) by the end of the game. I also felt the LGBTQ relationship kind of came out of nowhere and seemed tacked on for fanservice rather than any meaningful development or impact. The way the game writers wrote about transgenderism and cross-dressing come across as super derogatory, and I wish they left out that part of the plot entirely instead of include it in such a poor way for shock value and to gain sympathy. I feel there are better games you can play with your time than this one.
I will start with the pros and say this game was made with a lot of polish from a two-person team. The artwork is nice, I didn't encounter any bugs, and everything worked as it should. The ambience for the first half of the game does a great job setting the stage and building up some spookiness. Unfortunately the rest of the story falls rather flat and becomes cliche. I don't want to spoil too much, but I'm not a big fan of mental health issues being used as a trope since it's been overdone through the decades, and especially in this context I think the team could have been a little more creative since they started out the setting so strong. I also feel the story and atmosphere would have been more interesting if we just stuck with one character instead of bringing in two. The puzzles are ok, a little too easy and not super engaging. And lastly, the dialogue branches ultimately lead to three rather abrupt endings, leaving you feeling unsatisfied. Overall this was a short and cozy spooky-tinted experience I would only recommend if you get it on sale and have nothing else to pass the time.
