Needless to say this game is a technical disaster; bugs are everywhere, npcs are braindead, the driving doesn't work right, quests don't work right, physics don't work right, the map don't look right and the lighting don't feel tight - need I go on? These are all known issues with the game and anyone not deluded can attest to this; the game is broken. Naturally I wouldn't want to beat a dead horse. What I do want to focus on, is the incredible lack of self awareness on display. It feels like CD Project was terrified of leaving anyone unsatisfied with this game so they vowed to do eveything. Huge open world -bigger and better than ever before-? check. Customizable protaginst? check. Multiple backstories? check. Stealth gameplay? check. Looting and leveling? check. Rpg elemtns? check. Action setpieces? check. Side quests? check. Even more side quests? check. Driving? check. Character and vehicle cutomisation? check. Car customisation, improved AI, NPC love interests, NPCs with daily lives, a wanted system, a deep narrative, mission design as good as the witcher 3, more and more and more - it never ends. These are all things that were said to be featured at some point or another and then some. This was to be CD Project's magum opus, the gamest game of them all; yet Night city is more akin to that one carpet I used to have than an actual living breathing world. Who thought tackling every single game award at once would be a good idea? And with about 240 employees no less. That's about what Rockstar has per branch and you can now see why their games are nowhere near this ambitious. In the end CDP met their ridiculously varied criteria with varying success, yet underdelivered in every single way. This game is fundamentally flawed at it's core because it lacks direction, concrete goals and a solid foundation. You can iron out the bugs and fix the engine and fill in the content gaps with DLC, but this game will never not be underwhelming.
The Brothers In Arms series in general repressents some the best of what classic World War 2 games had to offer back in the day. Hell's Highway is NOT the best game in the series (That would be Road To Hill 30) but it is a great entry nontheless. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game and quite possibly so will you. Recommended.
