Trepang 2 is one of the few games that gave me buyers remorse. It pretends to be a spiritual successor to the F.E.A.R. games but in reality that's an excuse for the developers to not come up with anything original. The gameplay can be a bit fun when you first pick it up but that goes away quickly when you realize theres pretty much no story at all and all of the levels are completely disconnected and random. The "boss battles" are incredibly boring and frustrating as well. They force the player to shoot at a bullet sponge that's constantly charging towards you over and over again. It's just not fun. I think the main problem with Trepang is it's lack of originality. The developers have taken their favorite mechanics and level designs from F.E.A.R. and Crysis, (among other games) and forgot to come up with anything themselves. The result is an incomplete, disconnected mess of mechanics and design. The overall aestethic of the game feels cheap, and when I play Trepang 2 it doesn't feel like I'm playing a complete game made by a professional developer. It feels like I'm playing a F.E.A.R. ripoff made by people who didn't get what made the F.E.A.R. games good in the first place.
