No Man's Sky

From zero to hero

Hello Games had a rough start with this one. I didn't start playing until 2022 and it almost looks like a different game even since then in 2025. They keep updating it for free. It is a space/fantasy/survival open world, sandbox game with a bit of a story-line that you don't have to follow if you don't want to. It opens up later additions to the game if you do, however. It features great building mechanics, exploration, land to space flight without load screens, space battles, battles on the ground, ground vehicles and more. They have added so many settings that a person can make it as easy or hard as they want. Play alone or with friends, your choice. They also have separate expeditions that people can play for exclusive prizes which can be added to the main save(s). I have played nearly 3700 hours over several saves in this game. I play other games but this is one I keep coming back to.

Occupy Mars: The Game

Interesting concept, poorly executed

I really wanted to like this game. It is fun to play to some extent with decent controller support but there are some glaring issues that I am starting to think they don't know how to deal with after several updates. I understand that it is still in dev but, in my opinion, this game wasn't ready for an early release yet and still isn't many updates later. Their biggest issue is optimization. For a game with very little action going on, not even running water (It is Mars so I wouldn't expect any) only the player action and weather events, simple terrain graphics, the game performance is pretty awful. It shouldn't even require the game specs they do in order to run it. That being said, my machine is well above their minimum specs and I can play other graphics heavy games with a lot more action going on without any issues. As soon as I travel away from the starting base, the game starts hesitating, short freezes and other issues occur while the game engine works on the procedural generation, which is very poorly done. Nvidia Geforce Experience does not even recognize this game for optimization. Maybe in a few years it will be optimized and ready to play but for now, I am sad to say I am giving up on it.

My Time At Portia

Cute game -only one complaint

Pros: Cute characters , plenty to do. I am not a full- on constant battle kind of gamer so this game has a good pace for me, with a lot to do besides fight other characters/creatures. Good controller support and smooth gameplay. You can build your own vehicle, rent or own horses to ride, etc. Plenty of looting, building and even fishing in the game. Cons: I really dislike when developers decide you must go to a certain place or at certain time to save your game. I understand not saving in a battle or during a time sensitive mission, something like that but this game makes you go back to your house and sleep in order to save. The map is a little small but since there is so much to do, it doesn't matter that much to me.

Bee Simulator

Cute but needs work

This is a cute game that appears to be geared towards teaching children about bees. I thought it would be a nice way to relax and, for the most part, it is. The graphics are decent but the menus are lacking and I very much dislike game save points left to the whim of the developer instead of allowing the player to decide when we want to save the game. Sometimes real life interrupts gameplay and that is rather arbitrary when the developer decides they want control of when to save.

Retreat to Enen

Could use more work

The graphics are pretty decent, nice relaxing music, the concept of meditation is nice. Finding the treasure chests and other surprises is fun. The days are too short with night falling before 7 PM (19:00) and it gets really dark. They don't give you anything you can craft at the start to light your way, not even a torch so this can become a problem if you are not near a lit camp fire when it gets dark and then there is still around an hour of game time before you can sleep. Bad planning and pretty unrealistic unless it is winter, which it does not seem to be in the game. The game mechanics - building , hunting, etc, are pretty awkward. The map is fairly useless, seems to be water painting and quite vague. I got it 60% off and that's the most I would pay for a game of this quality.

Horizon Zero Dawn™ Complete Edition

Pretty game

This game has quite a lot positive about it with beautiful graphics, nice storyline, plenty of action, the ability to tone it down if you want with several different difficulty levels, and it has quite a few cut scenes if you like that in a game. I only find one big negative about it and that is the inability to save unless you are at a certain point in the game. Real life happens and you can't always play until you get to that save point so you lose progress, even if you fast travel to one of those points to save and move on. I dislike that way of saving a game.

Lumberjack's Dynasty

Good idea, poorly executed

Things I like about the game: It isn't just a simulation. It has a sort of story line and ability to create a family over time. The choices of personal vehicles as well as lumberjack type tools and machinery. The graphic scenery is beautiful. The things I don't like: Vehicles sink into the ground where there is no indication that there is mud or any reason for them to sink and you have to pay game money to get them unstuck. The game was in full release long before now. There is no utility trailer for moving the lawn mower from place to place and since it goes so slow to drive from place to place across the map for the mowing jobs, it just isn't worth using it but then you have to gather the "hay" by hand. It takes too long to make money in this game. I don' t play games for their reality but for a break from reality. It is a long grind that many may become bored with before long. There are many problems with memory clashes that have nothing to do with the quality of computer you are playing the game on, causing lag and once in awhile, the game will freeze momentarily. I've experienced a couple crashes also and my computer is well above the recommended system specs. Note; another update dropped just before I posted this but I don't know if they fixed any of the problems the game had because as soon as I started it after the update, I found that the forklift would no longer pick up pallets from off the ground as the forks no longer went down far enough so, thankfully I download the backup files and could go back to the update before this last one.

EVERSPACE™ 2

Nice graphics - gameplay has some issues

I did not play the first Everspace so I can't compare this one to it. I come in as someone who has played several space games but am new to this one. The graphics are great and the movement from area to area ok. I have a gaming computer above the recommended level but still experience momentary freeze glitches which last less than a second. I've noticed the same thing on other player's experience posted on youtube. I know it is still in development so hopefully all of these problems will be resolved in time. One issue, I am having as a newbie to this particular game is that jobs and missions which are rated for my level often have enemies of higher levels. The availability of weapons, crafting materials and just supplies in general is low so the difficulty increased very quickly. This could be discouraging to people who are just learning to play it and some may just quit. I am generally more stubborn than that but I find myself somewhat disappointed at the way the gameplay was handled. I plan to keep the game and wait to see what happens when the development is finished.

House Flipper

Seems unfinished to be House Flipper

When I first purchased this game over a year ago, it obviously had a lot of bugs and problem with the game engine itself which was hard on the computer. They have since patched that and it runs much better now than it did. I also like the Garden Flipper DLC but it still has a long way to go to make it a great game to play for me. I have listed some reasons why. 1. Walls - very limited paint colors and tile selections. Also, having to paint whole sections, unless it's around a window, limits the ability for creative decorating. 2. No ability to modify outside walls, remove or build from scratch. They don't even allow placement of window shutters and only certain types of their windows have shutters while others don't on the outside, which causes the houses to look unfinished/ off balance. 3. I hear they have decided to add a workshop to the steam version for making your own mods but I don't see they added it to GOG games. This could be a very good game but with the limitations in place now, it is only mediocre in my opinion.
