Resident Evil 2002 is far much better, but this is the one that started everything.
Probably not better than the remake for the avarage gamer, but it is still a great experience. I played RE 2 1998 after the remake and still enjoyed it very much! If you are a RE fan, you should not miss the original games. The remakes are different versions, but NEVER a replacement.
I only played RE 3 Remake, but this game is far more difficult, deep and big. Totally worth it.
