GreedFall - De Vespe Conspiracy

Nice addition to the game

I deeply enjoyed the base game and I'm glad I bought this DLC. The DLC is consistent with the base game in terms of quality; companions and recurring NPCs have spoken lines and dialogues *do* acknowledge your reputation with factions and *do* acknowledge some of the major events of the base game - I immensely enjoyed this detail. The new area is gorgeous and offers brand new tracks, items and a unique wild creature type to fight. The quest involves exploring a new region and investigating the titular conspiracy. Some fights are optional and can be avoided, should you choose a more sneaky route. In the end I believe the price tag is appropriate considering all the resources involved, though the whole DLC can be played in just few hours - it took me roughly 3 hours, but I like to take my time exploring the whole new area and reading every note I find - some notes are worth reading as they add details on major NPCs and companions.

Serpent in the Staglands

Missed opportunity

I really wished this game to be good, but I gave up after a while. It lacks what makes RPGs fun, imho: you have very little dialogue options, most of NPCs have no dialogue or most of the times you don't have the chance to ask plot relevant questions. For example, at some point something happens to an important NPC but you have no option to comment about this or even tell the news to other related NPCs. The devs promised that you have many ways to solve a quest, but this is not confirmed by what I saw so far. For being an "open world" RPG this is quite disappointing. This game could be compared to Arcanum: both have aged graphic (Staglands might look prettier though, if you like pixel art) and both have a shallow combat system, many fights are unwinnable by low level characters. Serpent in Staglands however lacks charm and ultimately feels empty.

Primordia

Great story, troubling puzzles

I'm not a fan of point and click adventures, I tend to give up when I feel too frustrated by impossible puzzle logic. On the other hand, I can forgive this frustration if the game has a great story, great characters and a surprisingly deep message. Primordia is one of those games: I felt rewarded as I gradually discovered the hidden plot; nothing as revolutionary as Planescape Torment, but still an interesting tale that deeply reflects the troubles of modern society. The writing is excellent and the game has some memorable characters. The browns and greys add a lot to the atmosphere, though I believe the retro huge-pixel-graphic is a little excessive. Most puzzles can be solved with common sense (like using a crowbar to open things) but some are really tough, so I kept a walkthrough handy (not a fan of frustration as I said). TL; DR: I recommend playing Primordia rather than watching a Let's Play video of it.
