Blazing Beaks

Pretty okay once you know these things

I'm writing this review not in hopes that the developer adresses these issues, but to help you figure out if these Quality of Life issues are a dealbreaker for you 1. The game doesn't let you highlight your character, it would have been nice to have options for 'off - player only - enemy only - enemy&player' to highlight what's moving because this game has a lot of visual clutter and you will get hit. 2. For the same reason, a room completion sound similar to the old Zelda games would have been useful, that way you know when you can let your guard down. 3. Similarly, all traps in a room should be deactivated when the completion sound plays. It really sucks when you clear tough enemies and then loose hp or die to a floor spike, feels very cheap. 4. While the versus mode can be played with up to 4 players, the stage-based story only allows for 2. The game is already chaotic and I think reducing the carnage was the wrong decision here. Loot and drops could scale based on the amount of players. 5. The different formats of the versus mode are quite fun but end very abruptly as there is no victory screen or podium, it just boots you right back to the main menu. This felt very unpolished to me. These issues are very unlikely to be adressed as the game has last been updated in 2019 and the developer Applava hasn't had any social media activity since april 2023 (both at the time of writing). I can see and appreciate what they were trying to do and genuinely believe this is a fun experience if what I pointed out does not bother you. I recommend watching some gameplay footage and getting this game on sale if you have a friend to play it with.
