Star Trek Bridge Commander is from the golden age of Trek games, modern titles come nowhere close to capturing the excitement and 'feel' of commanding your own ship. (I'm creating a remaster and enhancement project for Bridge Commander, more info on that below!) The campaign is enjoyable and feels like it was written by the DS9 script writers, the setting of the story is directly after the events of the Dominion War and about a year prior to the events of Star Trek Nemesis so it fits nicely into already established story canon. Quick Battle (a skirmish mode) can be used to set up many exciting encounters, it allows you to select a star system to battle in as well as allied and enemy ships. Want to see how many Birds of Prey your Galaxy Class can shoot down with out having the shields active? This is the place to go. The graphics of the stock game are good for the time which it came from, the most impressive graphical effect is the real time damage your ships can take. Hit with a torpedo with the shields down? It'll leave a blasted out crater in your ship. There are some issues though, there is a memory leak baked into the game related to the real time damage system. If you have large battles you can expect a crash within about 10 minutes. Outside of that though, the game gets hit on a lot for being unstable due to some 'interestingly' coded mods... The stock game its self though is pretty stable. Speaking of mods! This version of the game is just stock 1.1, so all mods made in the past will work with this install! The below link is to the Bridge Commander Game Front page which has a archive of over 4,000 mods! https://www.gamefront.com/games/bridge-commander As I said at the top, I am working with a group of people to remaster and enhance the game from the ground up, including new development tools for modding!
