Gothic 2 Gold Edition

Seems to be a Beta Version

This game could be so awesome! Unfortunately, some easily avoidable mistakes make this game almost impossible to play passionately for a long time. The world and feeling is not as perfect as in Gothic 1, the music doesn't support it so well, etc., and a lot of humor from part 1 is missing. But it's still a good feeling and there are good basic principles. Just one problem: To play this game effectively for a longer time, you have to already know it. You played for 10-20 hours and the you discover you have to start anew because you did choose the wrong skills. Then you have to start anew because you still took the wrong skills after 20-30 hours. By "wrong skills" I mean: You have to expend your rare learning points for every single thing you can learn (I wonder the character can eat without training), and there are plenty of directions you can go. So you pretty easy end up in picking the wrong skills - which you realize many hours later when you can't defeat your new enemies. This would even make the best game a frustrating experience. At the start, you "have to" focus on melee to survive and gain further learning points. But when you invested them in melee at the beginning and you want to be a Mage later, then you discover you should have saved your learning points of the past 10 levels for magical development - which you couldn't access and effectively use back then. So you end up being too weak on any weapon and always need endless hit-and-run-and-heal-strategies, which are totally exhausting, boring and fun killing. Additionally, even with advanced armor, in the middle of the game, "normal" enemies kill you with two blows in 19 of 20 cases. On top of all that, although you got a "clear" goal, it often feels like "I don't know what to do", especially at the start. So you keep wondering "Why do I play this at all?" - which I don't do anymore. In conclusion: Potentially 4/5-star-game, with some fun-killing mistakes in game mechanics that make it a 2-star-game.
