This game was the one that really hooked me up in Epic adventure. I played BG when it came out, and loved immensely, but Icewind Dale just spans loong ahead, as I still play it those days (I actually have a one-charecter game to complete). When reaching Dorn's Deep or the Frozen Museum, with the touchy and graceful soundtrack by Jeremy Soule, will you truly understand what it means to hack your way into epic scale's environments. The story, while very light, offers a nice insight into the Spine of the World ; the voice acting is deep, and even if it doesn't have a random generating system of weapons, the background to each unique set is just as pleasant to discover - again and again. Challenging and ever-lasting : that's what Icewind Dale is and will be to me *o*
That's one grand game =) But alas, it's so much far behind for exemple, Pharaoh, or Zeus or even Emperor... some game mechanics are clearly missing, and it makes the game such a sad pain to play... I still play it sometimes, but it never lasts enough. But great, great game anyway, that I learned to apreciate
Well, it's nice, that is a certainty, but I remain so much more attracted to the original designs ^^ And contrary to someone commenting here, I don't thing 3D graphics today may allow perfect rendition : 3D gets old too quick, and not always the best way ! Myst with Crysis-like graphics : that would be a real twist (and then again, what may I say in just five years from now ?). A nifty experience, but I would definitively recomand the original version of that fabulous game.
