Mortal Shell

My favorite Souls-like

I played it a year ago when it released exclusively on Epic. Probably would have waited had I known it'll be on GOG but whatever. This is a very good, atmospheric game but most importantly it is mostly frustration-free, unlike some other games in the genre. The hardening mechanic is interesting, replayability is good, the world is gritty and dark. Overall a great Souls-like experience. 4.5/5

Not feeling it

Positives: - Games works fine on modern systems but you have to get a "FPS fix" and a high resolution font mod. Other than that, you're good to go. - Enough has been said about this game AI, and it is indeed really good. The gun fights feel satisfying. Physics were great for its time and still hold up. I was playing on the highest difficulty and the combat is definitely the best part of the game. Negatives: - The story... it's bad IMO. Uninspired from the start and never gets any better. - The "scary little girl" in horror games is always cringy. - Bland and repetitive. Dull environments, boring characters, everything is a slog.

Stuttering mess

I am able to run this game on 144+ FPS, still the game is a horrible stutter-fest. Every few steps the game hitches for a brief second, FPS drops suddenly even in empty areas, you get freezes when trying to rotate a camera. This happens regardless if the Vsync is on or off. Even capping FPS to 60 in RivaTuner didn't fix the issue. Looked all around the net for possible solutions, to no avail. Seems like a bunch of people have this problem. The game is literally unplayable on a $2k+ rig. I don't want to sound like an a-hole, but how can they release a broken piece of c---p like this and charge money for it? Games like RE2Remake, Doom or Sekiro work flawlessly, while running this game is worse than playing Crysis in 2007.
