The mini summary: Aliens invade the earth and you have to fight your way through them. You learn new skills, both mundane like fighting as well as PSI powers that you gain and develop over time. The whole game has a very immersive story, written by SciFi co-author Orson Scott Card, and some nice cinematics. The cinematics set the scene and you let your protagonist go through fulfilling the objectives. This is a shooter with some RPG elements, you can play first or third person view. The main theme of the game is winning against the evil invaders (the Seekers) and growing ever stronger in you fighting and PSI powers. The story is fantastic, the best I have ever seen in a shooter. The game has good graphics, lots of different things to do: drive spaceships or ground based vehicles, use different weapons and PSI powers (lots of both), dodge & jump, you name it. Majesco seems to have had a knack for capable heroes in their stories (e.g.: Bloodrayne, Psychonauts), to bad they stopped making triple-A games. What is nice is that you really like the hero. The story develops both him and the other protagonists as well as the world around you. You have a lot of options so it lets you choose how to solve the levels as you take them, if you like shooting then there are lots of options, if you prefer PSI powers, then go with those. The controls are easy and well thought out (standard mouse and keyboard with good defaults). This is a truly original game, much more interesting than Far Cry, Prey or most of the shooters I have seen in recent years. It seems they concentrate on graphics wow and forget about game play. Not the the graphics in this game are bad, they are good (Quake 4 level, but nicer color schemes ;-) The moves are really nice and add a lot of fun to the game play. The PSI powers are original, you have a wide variety so you can choose your style and it levels well. What is bad: is not a lot. What is good: superb music score that underlines excellent story, lots of variety, good graphics and cinematics, easy to use controls that let you concentrate on the game play. There is some replay value as well as there are some choices you make early on that effect how things go. All in all definitely rates a high score if you like third persons shooter games with depth. Higher if you like original games with that let you decide your style, less if your aim is need to have your newest super duper machine showing it's strength. Go for it: recommended for all gamers.
For completeness, the mini summary: The game is about a cool half-vampire called Bloodrayne who saves the world (surprise!). She needs to figure out what is going on and goes through a lot of very bad "things" to do it. It is basically an adult third-person shooter, similar in style to Tomb Raider crossed with Doom (the original hell ones). This is a game for people who like original action games and are not afraid of the red stuff that sprays when somebody gets hurt. In other words: in spite of being a fantasy game, it is more graphically realistic than most of the politically correct games The main theme of the game of course is slaying... literally with long knives and lots of blood. Which is something I truly abhor, but the two Bloodrayne games are really, really, really suburb at letting you play the role of the half-vampire going-on-a-killing-spree for a few hours and having the time of your life. The story is good with some black humor and there are twists which keep you interested as it progresses. What I liked most about this game is that it is one of the few games around that is not just the boring point-and-shoot fare that most companies feed us with. You get in there and and use your (acquired) skills, like blood-lust, to get the bad guys. You have a number of weapon options, not just 50 guns and a chainsaw. The moves are really nice and add a lot of fun to the game play. You will find yourself trying out the moves in quiet areas just to enjoy the show! A few puzzles to keep your higher brain functions running are in there as well. The skill you acquire you really need to use during the game, make the whole game experience much more interesting than just running around shooting everything you see. What is might initially put some people off is that this game requires you to learn a few key combos to get the best out of Bloodrayne's moves. For people used to console keypads or who have played this type of game before, this should not be too challenging though. For me it was a bit difficult because I do not usually like these sort of games. The game can be enjoyed without having to know too many of them though, a few of the more powerful moves let you get by quite well and enjoy the show. The graphics are very good but still don't slow to a crawl on an older machine Many of the levels and the characters have obviously had a lot of work put into them to make them look good. The heroine is a real looker, which is good no matter what the sex (yours or the game character), because it is just more pleasant to look at. All in all definitely rates a top score if you like third persons shooter games with a twist. I recommend this game because it is original and just bags of fun. If you don't mind slightly dated 3D graphics, I would also suggest playing the original Bloodrayne. It is the original and really started some of the more popular complex acrobatic style games, such as the more recent Prince of Persia series.
Well this is undoubtedly the best game I ever played. The summary above pushes it as an action Sci-Fi but it is actually much more than that. It has adventure and mystery elements as well as just plain fun elements (like a boat race) that make this game so special. There is no dullness here, no point in which you are not exited and most important the game constantly surprises you with new things. The story is excellent with a truly epic ending(!) and the characters endearing. It is suitable for all ages and that really means it is fun to play for adults as well without losing any of its appeal. It will engage you with its humor and enthralling game play.
