Setting aside all of the weird things that happened during this game's crowdfunding and dev cycle, I can say that this game is good with MANY caveats. For every interesting mechanic, there is a but. Fights are interesting, but slow (due to slow, unskippable animations) and can devolve into painful crawls against certain enemies (hello virus weapons that make one soldier cycle-panic for 5 turns). Difficulty is poorly scaled (you can have boring uneventful stretches of gameplay followed by sudden difficulty spikes that can make some missions unwinnable). Economy is weird (useless items are expensive, useful ones can be cheap). The tech tree is all over the place, with some technologies being barely useful and others being super overpowered. The class balances are also piss poor (hello heavies who are better off not using their main weapons and can't fire from high places because of the way they hold their guns, despite being made to go to high places. Plenty of other weird decisions make it hard to recommend this game. I still have to recognize it had its flashes of brilliance, even if I will never play it again because those flashes where dimmed by the amount of weird design decisions it threw at me simultaneously.
