With a story written by Clive Barker and solid gameplay, The Undying earns ist full 5 stars without hesitation. In its core it is a FPS shooter so you will be shooting things to solve problems and progress. There are like 10 different weapons to use and you can also use magic to oblitarete the monsters or aid you in battle. Its gameplay feels almost like Bishock without the RPG elements. Its Story is awesome, even for the ones who do not know Clive Barker there are much to enjoy. And be aware this is a Horror Game. So you will be anxious most of the time as you explore a sinister mainson and traverse dream shaped lands to solve a mystery of a cursed family. The graphics are getting old but it is so consistent in its design that you will be wondering if there is a monster behind that tree than counting its polygones. If you want to enjoy a well written Horror Story go for it!!! PS : If you enjoy this game try Jericho from Clive Barker too.
I own this game since its release and finished it like 10 times with all of the available Characters. It really flourishes my heart to see it on GOG. What awaits you is a action packed RPG with an unique Combat System which is easy to understand but hard to master. There is nothing more satisfying than slicing an Orc in two halves or delivering an perfect timed parry with your sword. There are like 30 combat moves for each character, which are not only quite different but also extremely well animated. This game looks affter all those years really nice and almost complete bug-free which is a trademark of games made by Codemasters. But dont await a breathtaking Story behind that one. It is more like "getting the magic sword and saving the world with it". But the world is filled with hints and secret runes which describes the mythology behind it. This moments make you always feel like there is more to it. The Game itself is linear and no open-world which fits quite well to the gameplay. And it is gameplay what makes Severance - Blade of Darkness one of the true gems. I am still waiting for a sequel for that one. Get it and play it. Full 5 Stars from am old fan.
