I just bought the main game a while back and its checks most of the boxes for a good RPG game. In an era where franchise RPG games, Fallout, are removing layers of complexity to their games Atom keeps all the layers and maintains a good RPG experience. So I am more than willing to pay a few dollars to support this developer. Please keep games like this coming. Also, one tiny critique, the top down fixed 45 degress angle in game point of view and the inability to move lower than ~45 degrees is driving me mad! I instinctively want to view whats in front of me at a level position and it makes traversing the map difficult. If not for this short coming the game would be near perfect. I havent checked out the added content yet , to me its just a bonus. Seriously a cup of coffee at Starbrothel I mean Starbucks will cost more than this supporter pack, so buy it if you like the game!
I saw all the glowing reviews and decided to buy it. I realize its an old game, but trusted the reviewers critiques. I was highly disappointed. I am not returning to this game. It holds no nostalgic sway over me. I am completely new to this franchise. If I remember corrrectly the game is very linear. In fact it reminds me of the games I played on the ancient nintendo and sega console systems in the 90s. Move to sector A complete task move to sector B complete task. Oh, you have a time limit on this mission hurry up! The combat was OK but lacking. The mechanics of the bazooka or similar weapons were wonky. For instance I hit a armored car or light armored vehicle from behind multiple times and had zero effect. It was only till I learned you had to hit a specific point did I destroy it. Apparenty it has a small zone which results in a kill. Any other locations is for no effect. It struck me as unrealistic and dumb. I just got tired of the formulaic makeup of the game and quit before finishing it. It went something like: face impossible odds die and return to the start to try again. Then after scouting the map with a bunch of deaths you can finish the mission. Its 2020 and the game has not aged well. If you can overlook dated graphics, clunky gameplay a cliche linear story and console style gameplay then Id say buy it if not pass on it.
Good: *Survivor interactions are nuanced; they do not automatically all get along. *A large inventory of items that are modifiable. *Ability to add custom characters to the game *It’s a buck 99, It is well worth the price. *Similar to a roguelike Bad: *User interface leaves a lot to be desired it’s not "ergonomic" and cumbersome to manage, especially the inventory. *The game is not forgiving: automatically triggered AI "ambushes" will cut your game short. I.e. The timing and results are artificially unfair since they impose no win situations upon the player. Borderline *Way too easy to become "infected" *Gameplay can be a bit repetitive Conclusion: I wish the player was granted a little bit more control over the actions of the characters and situations. For example, if you assault a location you cannot call off an attack if you realize you are outnumbered, forgot an important item, or just plain changed your mind. It seems reasonable that an assault team would reconsider an assault and not charge headlong into disaster if certain conditions exist. The no win "random" (inevitable) events are just completely unfair. The results are almost always un-survivable, meaning if they occur your game will shortly be over no matter how well you've managed your game up to that point. The game is punishing and can be frustrating, but it can also be fun. I play it not necessarily to win, but to see how long I can survive and come close to victory. If you like easy victories surely you will be disappointed in this game. p.s. I have mostly played the Road Kill scenario & not yet played the Deadline scenario p.s.s. It’s a buck 99! Seriously, it's not gonna make you go broke.
