I love Banished. It's just the sort of game you need to own. The sort of cozy little game you'll return to every now and then and enjoy a few hours in...or obsess about for two weeks straight. It's great right out of the box. Tons of mods for variety. You won't regret buying it.
The game is far more shallow than advertised. Think you can start any industry you want? Dream on. You WILL start with farming and then continue down the narrow pathways the game forces you in. The game only gives you the illusion of choice. In addition to this the user interface is really bad. Yes the art style is great. The animations are nice and crisp but the menus! Oh god the menus. So MANY menus. Want to make one farm operative? Have fun having to manually configure 6 or so individual buildings and their menus in bad, uninformative user interfaces. I'm very annoyed in truth. I was really looking forward to this because it LOOKS and SOUNDS so good but in truth, it is astoundingly bad. Biggest dissapointment in 2018 for me so far by far. Seriously. Don't buy this game without reading the negative reviews. A LOT of people over on steam are spamming positive reviews simply because it looks so good and it sounds so good on paper. I assure you, it isn't what it seems. I wish it was, but it isn't and I don't see how it can ever be. Whoever designed this doesn't remotely understand industry games. It's just full of fakery. Illusion of competition and interaction. Illusion of freedom etc.
The concept is just phenomenal, the gameplay brilliant. Unfortunately, as has already been mentioned it suffers from bugs. Playing this will give you carpal tunnel (this is actually why I can't play it, it's not just a joke). You're supposed to be able to automate the game but you'll end up clicking so much you'll wreck your hand. It's still worth getting though. Sure you'll end up cursing the bugs and flaws of what would have been your favourite game otherwise but..even flawed, it is a must own.
