Games have moved on quite a bit since this released and it does now feel rather clunky. BUT, once you get used to it you will find a magnificent little game with memorable characters, brilliant writing and imaginative locales to visit (and recruit - no spoilers here). A 94% game on release as it really was a benchmark for the genre on PC. These days, the graphics, which, like Deus Ex, were not great on release are really showing their age and movement and level design are somewhat lacking. Still a must play for any RPG fan and a must for JRPG fans. 84/100
Its a fun little platformer but the central premise of the 88 heroes doesn't really work. Too many are similar or downright useless. It's mechanically Ok, there is a little 'slippyness' to the control of some of the characters and a 'stodgyness' in others. I can just about recommend in a sale but there are far better on here at £13.
At, last, one of the best CRPGs of the 8/16 bit era. Deep customisation and a massive gameworld. Very much in the mold of early clasics such as the Bards Tale, Wizardry and Might and Magic only with a higher quota of puzzles. I also remember it being considerably harder than most RPGs of the time (especially if you imported characters from another game). 9/10
This was the best selling PC game of all time until The Sims and its endless content packs. Unfortunately it is one of the worst games ever made. Dull, pointless, slow and laughably non-interactive. It will bore you senseless with its abstract puzzles and flick screen movement. It was a dog when it was released and will be far worse now. It was the vanguard of a whole host of tedious drivel (mostly from CRYO it has to be said) that died off fairly quickly. This should be dropped down a well and covered in concrete. Avoid like the plague.
