Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Heart of the Forest

Very strong Werewolf vibe, albeit short

The game has a really strong Werewolf: The Apocalypse feel about it. The devs have captured the spirit of the pen-and-paper game really well. The writing is solid, although some parts are ambiguous, and you the choices can mean something else than you suspect they do. Another downside is... it's VERY SHORT. 2-3 hours, and you're done. The game seems unfinished. Just as you are getting yourself involved, and things are becoming interesting, the game comes to an abrupt end. As if someone cut out the entire heart of the story. All in all a very decent game, especially for the PnP fans, but it definitely could use some more work on fleshing out the middle part of the story.

Into the Breach

Very poor design

The premise is interesting, but the potential is completely wasted. You lose all the progress you make after each 'timeline', including the pilot XP or the gear/upgrades you purchase, so you gain nothing, you always start from scratch. And with extremely repeatable battles, there's really no point in playing it more than 2-3 hours. Buy it only if you find it in the up to 5$ bargain bin.

Xenonauts 2 Demo

Not very promising

The gameplay seems to suffer from similar issues as in the first game, but they have added serious performance problems due to abysmal optimization. Granted, this is pre-alpha, but they were building on a stable foundation. And it's hard to say anything more, as the weakest part of the first game – the world map and base management – is not present.

Dead In Vinland

A great idea... wasted

The premise and initial delivery are really good. It would be a good resource management game, if not for three things: 1) TERRIBLE random number generator. 2) Too much things you don't have any influence over. 3) Not enough information. I've played on the lowest possible difficulty for several hours, and fun was diminishing fast, frustration kicking in. All in all: 1 hour of fun, 4 hours totally wasted. This game is not worth more than 1$.

Deus Ex™ GOTY Edition

Waste of time

Some games aren't worth the effort after many years. This is one of them. After numerous attempts, I have failed to complete the tutorial, and unistalled. The controls are not up to par.

A New Beginning: Final Cut

An anti-scientific SF game

The game follows most of the point-and-click tropes, although it fails at an execution. Lack of logic (some puzzles have much simpler, obvious solutions, but nooo... you have to do it the hard way! It might have worked for Monkey Island, but this game pretends to be serious), bad voice acting for the female lead, very bad lip-sync, bugs, bugs, and more BUGS (crashes, clunky interface, freezes, occasional Russian text), really silly puzzles (at least there's a SKIP button)... and to top all that, anti-scientific crap spilling out of a theoretically SCIENCE-fiction game. The list of mistakes and impossibly scientifically inaccurate things is too long to include in a GoG review. This is a real shame, because otherwise, it could have been a nice story. A word of advice if you do try it nevertheless... do NOT approach this game without a walkthrough, you'll just suffer.

Conquest of the New World

Abysmal combat ruins a good game

The exploration and colony building are great. Unfortunately, a totally broken combat system totally destroys the game. Your units almost always miss, and the enemy always hits. Even if you fight with experienced (2-3 levels) European cavalry and infantry versus level 1 native warriors. This totally ruins the experience.

Hard West

Really nice story, unpolished game

The story and various game mechanics are really nice. The vibe, the atmosphere, everything here screams Deadlands. It is very interesting to see slightly different mechanics in each scenario – it keeps the game fresh throughout until the end. However, there are two significant downsides: 1) Lack of player overwatch makes the combat far less tactical than it's advertised (and than it could be). 2) The card mechanics force you to use weaker cards, to obtain a specific weaker hand. It would be better to be able to choose, which bonus to use (like, I want to use Pair instead of Three of a Kind often). Other than that: a decent game worth your buck. I spent 20 hours in it (including the expansion), and I enjoyed it for the most part.

Jotun: Valhalla Edition

Utterly frustrating

I don't know, who classified this as an RPG. It's a frustrating arcade platformer, with idiotic controls, in which you will die very often. Total waste of money.

Tales of Maj'Eyal

A big let down

The idea of a modern take on roguelikes was very interesting, but the delivery is severely lacking. Chaotic, clunky interface, unreadable font, abysmal resolution scaling, and other bugs make this game basically unplayable.
