Alone in the Dark

Jazzy-noir lovecraftian horror mystery

A very enjoyable remake that has a lot of style and some genuinely shocking scenes, especially towards the end. I played with both Edward and Emily and each of their campaigns develops their character and also some of the other supporting characters that maybe were left out in other campaign. There are multiple endings too, and some of the “bad” endings were quite creative and very lovecraftian. The best parts of the game in my opinion are the exploration of Derceto manor and the puzzles. The combat is serviceable but it’s not the main focus. Overall it’s a game that modernizes the original while having its own identity. A great pulpy-noirish-lovecraftian adventure in 1920s Louisiana with a mind bending story. Recommended for survival horror fans!

Silent Hill 4: The Room

An underrated gem

Thanks for releasing this classic on GoG! It played flawlessly, might go for another playthrough soon. I think this game is actually quite influential to modern horror games, you can see its influence in games like Visage. It introduced some unique mechanics that totally changed the formula. I really hope GoG will be able to bring other classic silent hill titles so they’ll be preserved and well maintained like they’ve done here with silent hill 4. Keep up the great work with the oldies! I recommend the game to anyone who enjoys surreal horror experiences. It does require the player to be open minded and you should prepared for some jank. However, I believe it’s worth the effort. there is really nothing else quite like this game in concept, atmosphere and horror. I feel like it’s the scariest silent hill game, especially when it comes to the titular room, and just the overall concept of being locked in your own apartment is quite unsettling and uncanny feeling. When it comes to the story, there is a very interesting and intriguing mystery to discover too. Highly recommended for horror fans!
