DREDGE - Complete Edition

Salty Cozy Cosmic Horror

I am very addicted to this game! The system requirements are minimal, but the graphics are lovely. They remind me of watercolor paintings of seascapes. The atmosphere is New England Lovecraftian, but somehow cute. There is lots of cozy sailing around in lovely weather, checking your crap traps, doing a bit of fishing, and exploring coastal waters. There are also rough seas, storms, surprise hidden jump scare creatures, growing insanity, and desperately running away from really scary eldritch beasties. You can research and craft a ton of gear, collect resources for crafting, do quests including ferrying certain passengers, set of massive explosives, push your luck using evil ancient powers, and generally have a great time. There is no direct attacking beasties, but lots of fun running away, so it is OK for passivists. The sound design and music it top notch! I do recommend doing a search for "Ability Shortcuts Dredge" and following the instructions to download and install that mod. It gives you hotkeys for all but one of your powers, which cuts down on pulling up a big scroll wheel every 2 minutes. This in turn helps your immersion. The product is not perfect, and could be more difficult, but I really recommend it! You can find more mods on Nexus Mods. The best ones are Tweaks (lets you modify many things, but most importantly lengthen the very short day/night cycle) and Mo'Money, or Nerfed Economy to make progression on crafting and unlocking not so easy. Still, with ZERO mods, this game is still an instant classic. I rate it up there with Sid Meir's games like Pirates and Railroad Tycoon, in that is will never leave my hard drive, or my heart.
