The storyline of this game is okay. Its not good, not great, not bad, its 'okay', squarely in the bloody middle of the road. The puzzles themselves, however... range anywhere from deceptively easy to excessively difficult or just outright irritating. However, what really irritates me about this game is the CONSTANT interrupting commentary from the main character and the antagonist. Commentary that is just bargain bin level of 'bad jokes' constantly, interrupting your attempts to solve puzzles with no way to turn it off or to shut them up. It grates on the patience quite heavily, honestly. I normally like most puzzle games--and I can see why there weren't very many "7th Guest" sequels... this game is more or less testing your patience whilst you're attempting to solve puzzles and I wish I could just stuff the chatterers into a box so I can focus on the puzzles without interruption.
Whilst playing through this game, I learned it is very, very easy to screw yourself over and be forced to have to start over if you drop an item you need elsewhere in the game. The story itself is pretty lackluster; stereotypical 'chosen one' beating a super-powerful enemy. But given the time period it came out in, I'm not altogether surprised--strong storylines were not something that came out of most point and click adventure games. I've played a lot of them, including ones with extremely good storylines, I only did this one to complete the series in order--and honestly, I was not very impressed by this one.
Puzzles can be hard, but it brings me back to my childhood where I would sit in front of the television set with a glass of pepsi, and just watch Kirk on television. It will re-capture that love of the franchise you. I played and beat this game like 20 times in my youth, and I still love this game.
I played the absolutely hell out of this game when I was in my teens almost 30 years ago to this day. You can never have enough of Indiana Jones and this is one of the most tried and true classics of the day. If you enjoy simplistic puzzles and enjoyable one-line quips like in the movies, you'll find it here. This is a must have for any Point and Click Adventure collection, or even if you just want good Indiana Jones games.
