Owlboy

Room for improvement

The first half of the game is great. Occasional bugs are alright, I'm sure they get fixed. Annoying however is that your friends disappear when hitting a ground and sometimes they keep talking while invisible. Otherwise you get a fun introduction, great pacing, strong characters, very nice visuals and great complementary audio. However the second half is the real annoying part. The story tries to continue where it could've ended already, it keeps dragging on and the motivations behind characters and they prolonged absence makes no sense. At the very end the last boss fight makes little sense either - for reasons that would spoil this game too much. Its second half is also where boss-fights start with trial and error phases, which needs multiple retries. This is a change of pace, since all previous boss-fights mostly involved using your previous learnt skills and applying it to the situation - and that creates a feeling of being cheesy and certainly unfair on first try. Ruleset changes occur all the time by then, for example: - At the end you have to jump on floating pieces of debris, which later - for no reason either - suddenly hurt you. - The very last part disables your ability to fly - for a reasonably explaination - just to break that "no-fly" rule in the same area for no reason at all. It simply breaks its own rules and your little owl-buddy can suddenly magically fly again. There's no NG+ and the very last unlock makes no sense without one.
