Cyberpunk 2077

The most immersive game ever

This is an astounding achievement; the detail and complexity of the world is incredible and works with the AI and environmental storytelling to create a city that I buy into completely. Cyberpunk 2077 is an immersive sim style RPG that manages to tell a compelling and personal story with stakes that feel immediate and important while also delivering a large explorable space that looks great whether you're on foot or in one of the many vehicles you have access to over the course of the game. The themes of the game are many layered and you get to explore them in as much detail as you want; whether you want to smash the system tm or work it to your advantage from within the game really makes you think about your choices and the people you meet and interact with ground the setting with an honesty that ties the whole experience together. There's a lot of elements to a game like this and not all of them work. Having voiced player characters inherently limits the number of available dialogue options and roleplay, in turn the missions are relatively linear in terms of what you need to do, the only choices within them being how you choose to complete them. I have also experienced more than my share of bugs for a game that was supposed to be 'coming when it's ready' but I can live with these issues for one simple reason: this is the only game that has ever come close to equaling Deus Ex (2000) in terms of complexity and philosophy. Eventually the bugs will be ironed out and PC hardware will be able to run it properly. And then, we'll have a city to burn.
