Ghost Song

Nails the feeling of exploration

For me the 'feeling' of movement felt quite different to begin with, it took me a little time to get used to it, but once I did (and realised some moves like the 'dash' and 'sprint' are unlocked as time goes on) it really felt right to me. So if you're the same and your first few minutes playing feel different? Give it a few minutes to settle in! It's kinda like a H.R. Giger-ish world, not in that it is body-horror, but in that the environments and world you wake up on feel very alive. Top marks for how the environment reacts as you move through it, the changes in biomes, the enemies and creatures. Mixed with the (excellent) music, this game has become a real pleasure to play through. Gameplay is a great mix of reaction and precision-based combat with platforming. You'll come back to areas once new abilities unlock and the progression really feels your own as you go through it. I've not played a huge amount of Metroidvanias, but if you love them, then this really is worth your time. I've had an amazing experience, the story, world, small amounts of voice acting, movement, and music are all really top of the top to me. Loved my time playing this!

Prey

One of THE better AAA games on GOG

So glad to have got this, and then given it the chance. I'd previously tried it on Game Pass, but it never really 'clicked' with me, but after playing System Shock, then System Shock 2 on PC...playing 2017's Prey was the logical next step. It looks incredible, with Arcane's 'signature' stylised look to character design. The environment is absolutely atmospheric: think a slightly clean and crispier sci-fi setting than Aliens, and it's locked nicely into that feeling. Spooky, unsettling, with great audio (the sounds of the world around you are key to everything!)...it has even been one of the few games where I find myself reading the 'books' and emails on every work station. I love how you can approach everything, and I mean EVERYTHING your own way - stealthily, sneakily, or guns blazing. You can use the environment and complex to your advantage and literally build your own path. It makes me feel like I am in control of my play-style. The story is great, the animations, world design, the sound and writing...this game is truly top-notch. You can get it for a great price too. I have played this one via Heroic Games Launcher on my Steam Deck on the go, without any issue whatsoever. Have had a great experience, and appreciate the game being on GOG. I can't recommend the game enough!

BioShock™ Remastered

Bioshock is THE perfect game, on GOG

I've been enjoying playing the remastered Bioshock on my Steam Deck, by using Heroic Games Launcher. It plays absolutely perfectly, no hitches, no issues, no shaders compiling...it just shows how a nice remaster of a solid, solid game can be exactly what you need. There's a reason the story and gameplay of Bioshock is constantly up the top of the greatest games of all times lists, so that has already been covered. I appreciate being able to own the game on GOG, I appreciate it being DRM-free, I appreciate the reasonable price it goes for, and I'm looking forward to playing all three after I finish this one. If you, like me, play it on Heroic on a Steam Deck or similar, make sure to change the Heroic settings for it to have esync and fsync both disabled, so that the smooth detail-less artifacts doesn't occur.
