Got this quite recently and I am thoroughly enjoying it. As the title says, 52 hours & counting. Granted, I'm nothing like the average Youtuber, running-around like headless chickens, I'm taking my time and don't follow orders. Quests can wait until I'm ready. I do now own the gas station though and I've just taken full control of the Car Junkyard (DLC), now working-on the Airstrip (DLC), so it's only a matter of time... Just started the Tidal Wave DLC and I'm so looking forward to employing some staff... I hate the cash register, but then I did work in retail for 8 years, so it brings-back some unpleasant memories ;-P. There are some issues/bugs, which brings-up a question... Why do we appear to be over a year behind on updates? Surely our money is just as valuable as it is on other platforms, so being left behind leaves a bitter taste in your mouth... Anyway, despite the bugs, this is much more fun than I expected it to be, worth every single penny... Even more-so if we get the latest updates ;-).
As usual, I checked some Youtube videos of this, before I decided to buy it. Some Youtubers seemed to be criticising it, just for clicks/likes, completely unnecessary. I believe a solo developer created this, so those criticising, I'd like to see your effort, but I doubt many of you are even capable... I will struggle with one aspect of this game, but I'm willing to struggle-through, to support the dev... I have NO colour vision and some of the missions do rely on it. I'm determined to do this though, if only to support those who are willing to put themselves in the firing line :-). This game does take some getting used-to, but if you're willing to put the effort in, it can be a relaxing experience and something different from the plethora of, in my opinion, pointless FPS games out there. Give it a try, it might surprise you :-).
*Copied from my forum post* After playing the game for a little longer than when I first reviewed it, some issues. 1. You're expected to jump through more than a few hoops, just to keep your Goblins AND the Deities happy, this is still early-game too, even in 'Builder' Mode. 2. There appear to be a few problems with logistics... Despite having more than enough food, I kept receiving messages that my Goblins were 'Starving' 3. Coupled with those 'Starving' messages, when trying to keep the population down, by NOT building more Warrens (housing), you then get messages saying that MANY Goblins were affected by lack of housing and that reduced their satisfaction further, essentially forcing the construction of more Warrens :-/. Bugged, or bad programming? You decide...
This is a game which takes time, so if you're one of those people who wants everything done yesterday, then I doubt you'll enjoy this ;-P. If, on the other hand, you like taking your time over a game and having some fun whilst you do, then you probably will enjoy this. I won't spoil it by saying what happened to me on my first go, but I was crying with laughter :'-D. I wouldn't be laughing if it happened in real life, but it's a game, it's not meant to be taken seriously, the cute graphics should tell you that much ;-). I'm currently working on skillset/s for my colonists, trying to make them as productive as possible. By the way, for those who prefer the creative aspects in games like this, you're catered-for, you can disable all the stuff which can kill your colonists and just be as creative as you want. A nice clear interface helps too ;-), Really enjoying it so far and I suspect that will continue.
Was this game even tested on resolutions below 1080p? I attempted to run it on my desktop resolution 1600x900, which is what I need to have it set-to. This game doesn't like that setting at all. Menu partially missing, meaning I had limited access to settings and when I did finally start the game, all the buttons I needed for building etc., so far off-screen, only 2-3 buttons were showing. I tried playing the game in 1080p, but the GUI wouldn't scale high-enough, so this left me unable to see/read almost everything, due to sight problems. Had to ask for a refund, due to it being unplayable for me :-(.
... To realise, that this game is something I really enjoy already and will continue to do so. I've played literally hundreds of racing games over the years, many different styles, top-down, isometric, 3D, sims, arcade racers. This took just a few minutes to grab me by the throat and I KNEW I loved it :-D. Simple controls, that don't overcomplicate things and keep the racing fun, as it should be. I'm not a fan of some racing games which take the fun out of the racing, by throwing too much at you, with so many buttons to remember, it makes your head spin. Keep it simple, keep it fun, like the good old days of racing games. If you remember how racing used to be, the sheer enjoyment of it all, the satisfaction you got from winning a race after you got the lap just right,, then I suspect you'll thoroughly enjoy this. A heck of a lot of fun, at a price that is well worth paying in my opinion :-).
As I usually do, I checked some reviews and gameplay videos on Youtube before buying this. Some were saying that Tropico 4 is the best in the series, which it may well be, but I preferred the features and looks in Tropico 6. Given that I haven't played any previous version, it made sense to get the latest one, so I did. Didn't really have a clue what I was doing initially, but there are plenty of guides on how to get started, because the logistics alone in this game, pretty challenging for a newcomer, but after playing it for most of the day/night yesterday, shortly after I bought it, it's worth taking the time to practice and make MANY mistakes, but that's how we learn, from our mistakes ;-) So far, loving it, great fun and really gets the old grey matter ticking-over nicely.
