CARRION

damn near perfect

I love the concept, the animation is beautiful, the lighting and destructible objects are amazing, the sound is immersive, even the story is tight, especially for a video game. My only complaint is that I wish there was more... once you get fully upgraded you wish the game wasn't over so quickly. Here's hoping for an expansion pack with more levels!

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin

BUY NOW, PLAY LATER!

This is what I hate about this early access crap. I was ready to buy this based on the videos I've seen, until I read this page and find out there is a grand total of THREE MAPS in this game. So basically, they want us to buy the shareware version of a game that doesn't exist yet, in fact there's less content here than the free shareware version of Quake. I make this comparison because this uses the Quake engine -- meaning it is basically a total conversion mod for Quake. With a whopping THREE maps. For $25. And a promise that eventually a full campaign will be released at some unspecified point in the future when they get around to it. The quake engine has been around for 25 years and they want us to pay full price for their 3-map total conversion mod for it. The "boomer shooters" this game is nostalgic for were cranked out in a few years start to finish by just a few people and they had to design the engine and code from scratch at the same time as the maps and art assets and mapping tools and everything else. If you're doing this, maybe I can see releasing into EA, but you're working with an engine that is older than some of the people who will be playing the game. How long does it take to put even a complete shareware episode? Instead we got a partial first episode and we get to pay full price for it. How about let's be fully nostalgic for the 90's and release a free demo of the first couple levels like they did back then? I'd feel more comfortable laying out some cash if I could play it and confirm that this is not just a glorified quake mod that somebody wanted to make a buck on instead of posting it to MODDB.
