MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is a modern take on the classic MechWarrior games, combining the more open world aspects of MechWarrior 1 and the recent HBS BattleTech game with updated graphics. Visually it is quite good, but like many open world games its repetitive in its gameplay loops, forcing you to play generic procedurally generated missions to get to the next story mission, and the story missions are pretty generic in the main campaign with a plot easily apparent to BattleTech and MechWarrior fans. It's good while it lasts and the DLC especially overcomes these issues for a longer period, but the default game is good but not great.
