Alone in the Dark 1

Innovator and father of survival horror.

Alone in the Dark, a 1992 third-person shooter set in 1920s Louisiana, features protagonists Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood, who are exploring the old Derceto mansion to solve the mystery surrounding the suicide of Jeremy Hartwood, the estate's owner and the protagonist Emily's uncle. Upon starting the game, a cutscene unfolds, where we arrive at the estate and head to the attic. From there, we begin our journey to solve the mystery and survive the creatures we encounter along the way. The gameplay is quite streamlined for modern times; our character moves like a tank, turning on their own axis and then pressing forward to move in the chosen direction. There's only one action button, the spacebar, and the "I" key, which opens the inventory and allows us to select an action or item, such as positioning items to solve puzzles or drawing weapons to engage in combat against threats. Clearly, all these features, combined with the game's fixed camera system, served as a major inspiration for another famous survival horror franchise, Resident Evil, which almost no one knows about, right? Anyone who enjoys survival horror games with a Lovecraftian feel has to play this game. While I know its timeless gameplay might be a hindrance for modern players, this classic is definitely worth playing.

Inscryption

A different card game than usual

The first time I saw Inscryption was when I played a demo available on Steam and at that moment I had already added this game to my wish list to buy it soon. I have several hours of card games like Hearthstone for example, but this game here caught my attention with its sinister setting and roguelike gameplay. In Inscryption, we start as someone who is apparently trapped in a gameplay loop against a mysterious creature, and as we play and explore secrets in the cabin we find ourselves in, we understand a little more about the mystery surrounding the game's plot. The gameplay is easy to learn but requires a little time and patience to master. Since it is a card game with roguelike mechanics, be prepared to make mistakes, lose games and start over, but it is precisely this loop that makes Inscryption so addictive. Because with each run we learn more about the mechanics of the cards and improve our deck. By finishing the so-called "Act 1", you unlock more material that deepens the game's narrative, and for me this is where Inscryption starts to lose some of the high quality it offers us at the beginning, as the game's mechanics change and take away some of the immersion we had at the beginning of the game. However, I can say that this "low point" does not diminish the brilliance of Inscryption in any way; it is a brief break in the rhythm that rewards us even more at the end. NOTE: By completing all the acts, you will unlock a new game mode called "Kaycee's Mod", which increases the difficulty considerably and presents a good challenge for anyone who wants a little more Inscryption. In any case, I highly recommend this game, certainly one of the best I have played in a long time.

The Secret of Monkey Island™: Special Edition

A great revamped classic!

The Secret of Monkey Island is one of those classic point and click adventure games that were hugely successful on PCs in the 90s, and that belong to a genre that was kind of forgotten as technology advanced and changed the games that always entertained us. So, when adventures returned to activity with the success of Telltale's games, it naturally reignited the flame and curiosity I had to seek more experiences with this genre, and then I saw in The Secret of Monkey Island, considered one of the great pearls of the adventrures, the opportunity to enter the universe of LucasArts games and I can say with certainty that I understand all the cult appeal that this title has. I loved everything here, from the puzzles that make you think outside the box to the sarcastic humor with occasional fourth wall breaks that were brilliantly fitted by its writers. It is worth remembering that this is the special edition, a remake that contains updated graphics and menus, which even remove the famous and nostalgic box of verbs, and I particularly liked that, giving more space to the scenarios and redone art that in my opinion made the game very beautiful, remembering that you can switch to the classic graphics just by pressing F10 at any time. I highly recommend!!!

Syberia II

Little has changed ...

Syberia 2 is not that sequence that improves everything that the first game brought that we all expected, at least in technical terms, but with regard to the story and the characters shown here, this game is much better. Mechanically its gameplay is still well dated, even for 2004 when this adventure game was released, but the quality of Benoit Sokal's writing makes up for most of the frustrations you will have when playing Syberia 2, and these frustrations will often be with Regarding the innumerable puzzles in the game, some are well thought out and others are simply trial and error taken to exhaustion, impairing immersion a little and frustrating players who are not used to having patience in games with these mechanics. In addition this game has relatively beautiful graphics and its ending is certainly one of the most beautiful in any adventure game you try. I only advance that to play and enjoy Syberia 2, you will need to have patience and dedication to continue until the end, all this will be worth it.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition

Don't waste time and play now!

In my opinion, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the best games of the decade and is certainly in the top 5 of this generation. Why do I say that? Well, because it's an extensive game, full of a lot of content. But it is content well done, with love, as each side quest is carefully written, with a very well-told story and without that 'ad infinitum' repetition sensation that we normally find in many games. Its evolution system is one of the best ever created in the history of games and its weapons combined with oils, signs and potions create a true harmonic orchestra of mechanics, and lastly, I must give special emphasis to its cast of characters that very well supports all this plot that involves politics, prejudice, love and friendship. And if all this is not enough, here are also 2 expansions that add several hours of gameplay and new stories as good as the main quest. JUST PLAY THAT !!! Note: With each passing day, I can't handle the hype for Cyberpunk 2077. Thank you for existing, CD Projekt Red !!!

Syberia

Beautiful scenery, cool story!

Syberia is a sensational graphic adventure. His story is very captivating and his art is still beautiful, even though it is a 2002 game. I highly recommend it to every fan of graphic adventures, it made me even more willing to start his follow up.

The Penumbra Collection

Good story, but poor gameplay

This package of the Penumbra series is well worth buying, especially in promotions. For this game of the same developers of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, is his card of visits, presenting a good script, intelligent puzzles and physics well worked and certainly deserves to be appreciated. Of course, like every first game of an indie developer, he has some bad points, such as his precarious system of fighting and replaying enemies in Penumbra Overture. In Penumbra Black Plague, this system was withdrawn, which certainly increased the terror of the game, not to mention that its history has now become more refined and the variety of settings has also been slightly improved. And to finish, in Penumbra Requiem there is no terror, the game is only puzzle solving and recommended for those who liked the puzzles of the two previous parts.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
