I remmebered when I gave this a spin during my 360 days and finding it pretty average, so color me shocked how much I like it now in my adult years. Granted, not everything is peachy keen between having to install some mods to get the game actually looking good or how bloody exhuasting it gets towards the end of it but overall, this is a slck, violent and very polished shooter that I think any FPS fan can get behind. And despite it age, the visuals do hold up pretty well (the lighting esepcially). It goes on sale pretty frequently so if you wanna give it go, go ahead. It's worth it.
You've seen all of the tropes and story beats in a game like this before but it all comes down in execution, which is something this game happily succeeds in. A particular blend of post-apocalyptic Sci-Fi, Fantasy and adventure propells this Hero's Journey, with Aloy herself (voiced by the lovely Ashley Burch) being an immensely likeable and plucky heroine. Not to mention what a genuine stunner this is too; You will definitely need to fine tune some settings to get it at the framerate you want but once you do, the ruined world of Horizon can be something to genuinely behold. Gameplay is also pretty solid too; Typical smash and grab against giant monsters and bandits n stuff, with an impressive difficulty cruve to master. Honestly, playing this gave me the vibes of not only something like Dragon Age Inqusition (ironic that Gureilla put out a better Bioware game in 2017 than the actual studio did) but also another Sony classic, the Jak & Daxter franchise. I'd say that's good company to be in.
