At the time of initial release I found this game frustrating, with poor performance on console. I was so excited for this game so I pushed through it and never really found much enjoyment. I finally got the chance to play the game at a higher frame rate (this runs at 30 fps, but LosslessScaling gets it to 60) and its a decent game but nothing too special. The combat like most Silent Hill games isn't great. With the exception of the Apartment itself, the level design isn't as creepy or scary as 1, 2 or 3. This game has a sort of different vibe from the other Silent Hill games, and although I can see why some would like it, I personally do not. Rather than just the characters being awkward and weird in Silent Hill 2, in 4 the entire game is awkward and weird. The biggest issue that frustrates me is how there are items that are not just useless but make the game harder without telling you, and weapons that are worse than your starting weapon in every way imaginable. Its decisions like these that feel like a gamey punishment, rather than anything that fits within the theme. I think this is a game people who are huge Silent Hill fans, AND want to see a different interpretation of the formula. This should NOT be your first Silent Hill game.

Its not as stealth focused as many reviewers make it out to be, this game teaches you about stealth and encourages you to be stealthy, but it isn't a requirement and most of the game can be played like a shooter. It has some glitches, and the performance is a little bit rough (around 45-60, mostly around the 50) area on my rig. Overall a fun game, definitely a different and unique experience that is worth the low price it is often on sale for.
