As others already said: I nice little game if you like the search for hidden objects, but it has almost nothing to do with the original story and you don´t need to think at all, which is very unlike Sherlock Holmes, too. Searching is enough. Nonetheless it is a way of passing the time if you feel for an uncomplicated game, and if you wait until it is on sale, you will not be disappointed.
Bought it while I was still playing part 1 and I don´t regret it. As good looking as the first part. I like the doll which you can use to solve puzzles, should you lack the patience (happens to me sometimes). Nice little irony in the comments if key numer xxx is missing :) Even some shock moments. I would recommend it to players who don´t like to waste their lifetime on searching for the right place to do the right thing. Who love a good horror story without expecting heart attacks. Who want to be entertained straight away. Like me. Waiting for part 3 to come ...
Looks nice, feels nice, highly entertaining and satisfying to play. You never have to search for ages what to to next and where, which usually ruins that kind of games for me. Maybe it is not the right game for players who love to crawl into the game designers mind to find out the special system for finding the right solutions. Or for the ones getting offended if you find things at places where they never would be in real life. Well. I don´t care. I want fun. This game is fun. Love it.
What _could_ have been a nice game, turned out to be just clicking from one line of dialogue to the other. After the first half an hour or so you have seen all the characters possible expressions, which only meet somewhat both text and emotions. They shift between three or four »attitudes« and there is no lip synchronisation at all. All characters remind of known actors - Michelle Pfeiffer came to mind or Zhang Ziyi - and it would have been nice with at least _some_ kind of speech sound. The backgrounds - like in a theatre - and chacters look nice, but since all you do is reading while the characters change their position and never really match the situation, there soon is no reason anymore to look at all this beauty. After one hour of gameplay you have seen everything there is to see. It took me 6,5 hours to complete the game (so tells me GOG Galaxy), and I kind of ask myself why I did it. The story itself is not that bad, but it is told in an especially boring way. There are two main characters, and it seems up to the player - or better: reader - to determine, who they are and what they did while nobody was watching - in any case not you, the player. They just tell about it in those dialogues, or they get accused for something, and it is some kind of weird if you get to know things about them you already should know – since you are »playing« them … reading them … … well … something like that … Even the option for some romance does not add some kind of _life_ to them. I liked the idea of a book-like story told like a play on stage, but »Solstice« is not good enough. Wouldn’t it been for the dialogues, I would recommend it for children under ten, and I see no reason at all why I would like to click all theese lines of text again, just to catch another one of the four possible endings.
I played and loved most of the Gothic games and had tons of expections to Elex. Alas ... It´s not the graphics, not the combat (well ...), not the fact that you run around like some idiot only to find out that most of the quests can´t be solved because you are not strong enough, but the fractions that simply make me give up. What a bunch of contemptuous nasty a...holes! I really won´t be a part of any of it, not for a minute and not for all cool equipment in the world. I mean, it´s science fiction in a way, isn´t it? So I have to fight in some berserk-armor? No, thanks. The only choice I would make are the clerics which have a leader called "Ulbricht". Really? Like the man who made old Eastern Germany, the "DDR"? A guy talking about purity, law and order like some other Nazi, reminding me of "Achtung, Achtung, schnell, schnell!" like in old american films? It´s simply disgusting. And so it starts to be boring. And that´s it.
