    very enjoyable

This is a Hidden Object game with adventure elements such as exploration, puzzle solving etc. If you are not a fan of this genre then this game isnt for you. I do like it, and this older game was very enjoyable and pure from the new ones I have become familiar with from Artifex Mundi and Big Fish. first of all, the devs cut out alot of the frustration that confound the new HOs such as tedious back tracking to get an item in order to build an item in order to do an action etc. They intersperse quick travel requests after you complete that item and will transport you immediately to the location its used if you desire. There is a map which shows actionable areas with quick travel. The story is intriguing, you solve a deep mystery with Holmes, its a bit gory. The art isnt as beautiful and detailed as the newer games but quite serviceable and lush. For once the messy HOs have a real reason for being that way, crimes scenes of mayhem. In fact what is most enjoyable about the game is the seamless story telling where HOs serve a purpose instead of just plunked into the plot to add game play. The voice acting is so so, accents a bit off. The music is orchestrated but can get a bit repetitious, you can change volumes or mute. What is missing are multi leveled HOs where you solve mini puzzles within the HO which can be fun from newer HOs, these are straight find items HOs. You cant zoom but i didnt have too much trouble finding objects though some of the names were off such as calling a canteen a flask etc. The puzzles range from easy to more convoluted and hard but i was able to do most with only skipping one more obnoxious one. there are achievements but i did miss the morphing objects from the new HOs. Overall its a very pleasureable game to play whist in bed

    Interesting diversion

As a Sherlock Holmes fan I was dissapointed that this game doesn't involve any mysteries as you would find in the books. Instead it is a series of logic puzzles and object finding games set in a supernatural story unlike anything Conan Doyle would have written. However it is an enjoyable enough diversion and everything is well put together and cohesive. My other complaint is that it is too easy and even in the "hard" mode gives too many hints too quickly. I was able to complete it in under 3 hours including all the cut scenes. Worth the purchase when it is on sale but I wouldn't pay full price for it.

    Get in on sale

A nice little game, which combines hidden object screens with a few logical puzzles. If you disregard the name and fictional universe where it's set, it offers about four hours of enjoyment. Unfortunately, the purists may be a little disappointed as the supernatural themes are more Lovecraftian than fashioned after a Holmes story, and even those who can overcome this dislike (such as me) may be disappointed by the abrupt ending. What did please me, on the other hand, is persistent saving, which saved me quite some time when the game crashed on me. Objectivelly speaking, the game reeks of bargain bin. Despite the gameplay being very entertaining, it's at most four hours long. The graphics and soundtrack are very low-end, and animations consist of paper cutout movements. Once you see this title on sale, conside buying it, but at the full price it's not worth it.

Nice game but why is Holmes there?

This is a good hidden object game. Not to difficult but not too easy - it took me about 3 hours to complete which is normal for me with this kind of games. It has interesting puzzles and quite suprising "powers" mechanic. Which is where we arrrive at the issue. The game presents the hound of baskervilles as a reals paranormal beast, we are travelling through time and performing magical rituals. All of this while playing as Sherlock Holmes who believes in nothing but logic, but here he takes to existance of ghosts and magic as if it was the most natural and logical part of his life. It is really starnge and clashes horibbly with who Holmes is. Never the less if we ignore that this was supposed to be Holmes game, it is ok. A nice little diversion to kill a few hours on a lazy evening. Although I believe that it would be much better received if it was telling a story about a random investigator trying to undo a random family curse then as a subpar adaptation of a The Hound of The Baskervilles that doesn't seem to understand it's source material.

Okay game, has nothing to do with Holmes

This is basically yet another hodge podge of puzzles loosely connected to one of my favorite Sherlock Holmes mysteries. It uses the voice over artists from the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes series, which was a nice touch, but it introduces hidden rooms, time travel and grants Holmes supernatural abilities, making it The Hound of the Baskervilles in name only. The creators just needed a spooky mansion to place the game in, and a possibly supernatural force for you to go up against. This new version of The Hound of the Baskervilles is subpar to the original, naturally, and also subpar to almost every adaptation of it. So to enjoy it, you need to completely forget about Holmes and focus on the puzzles. Which as a whole, aren't that bad. Some are too easy while some seem to rely on trial and error, but if you get stuck there are hints, and you can always skip a puzzle. The map also tells you which rooms still have items you need to collect, or puzzles you need to solve. So it never becomes too difficult. But it never rises above being yet another puzzle collection, mainly due to its over reliance on its hidden object segments, which are there to pad the game. I would have much preferred more unique puzzles, especially since I can't stand hidden object games, which I find extremely cheap.
