Alan Wake is a thriller and survival horror, in quality on the same level as Resident Evil 4 (i.e., best of the best), but in content completely different. In my opinion, Alan Wake is one of the best games of all time! The "light/darkness" gameplay is totally unique, very innovative and revolutionary. Great story and atmosphere, very suspenseful from beginning to the end. From the makers of Max Payne 1 & 2, which also were fantastic games. It's one of the very best games you can find anywhere, so don't hesitate to check it out. My only complain is that the developers were so stupid to use licensed music, which means this game has an expiration date (for people who don't own it). For 1 1/2 years Alan Wake was everywhere out of sale for this reason, now it's back. Funny thing is that nothing would be missing if this music would be taken out (it's only in the radios and credits).
I'm really amazed that the Unreal graphic engine is in countless games, but Unreal 2 so underrated. This game is fantastic! In every mission you are on a different and unique planet nothing like the one before. There are also a variety of different weapons which are added during the game. It never gets boring. Many other games show only one environment, but in Unreal 2 every mission (planet) brings something completely new. I recommend it to everyone who likes shooters!
"“Limbo is as close to perfect at what it does as a game can get.” I couldn't agree more with that. It's a looong time since a game impressed me that much and it's incredibly unique, I have never seen anything like it. Not just the graphics are pure art, but also the gameplay. The challenges have a perfect difficulty; not too easy and not too hard. It also has a perfect automatic save feature. While other games try to increase the difficulty or play time by forcing you to repeat parts, in Limbo you continue exactly at the recent location. Every player should have played this masterpiece, otherwise you really miss something great!
I had never heard of Alien Rampage before, but I bought it because 1.) I like platformers and 2D action and 2.) I like to support games that didn't get the commercial success they derserve and support GOG to bring them to a new audience. After playing it I can say that Alien Rampage is really an excellent game, much fun and very unique. Huge variety of level design, very different enemies, unique atmosphere on this alien world, it's gory (nice contrast to other games of this genre and much fun), different cool weapons, etc. It never gets boring, because the levels and enemies are so different from each other, so I was thrilled to play through it. Alien Rampage was released in Dec. 1996 in the 3D era, when 2D was completely overshadowed by the 3D (except maybe a few long established franchises). If Alien Rampage would have been released a few years earlier, it would have been quite successful, no doubt. It didn't get the credit it deserved and was much underrated, but fortunately 2D is popular again and GOG brought this hidden gem back. I have only praise for it and can only recommend it to everyone who likes platformer, action, sci-fi or just appreciates a very unique game.
I forgot to mention that in my review here: Thank you GOG not only for bringing Shadow Man back and adding the very well-done German synchronisation in addition to English, but also for the many awesome goodies: Many different soundtrack files, BIG strategy guide, map, etc. etc. I would have bought it just for the goodies alone!
