I had never played a turned based game before, but the trailers pushed me to try this one. It was almost impossible to put it down once I got going. The world and characters are the main appeal to me from the start, and mostly only got better throughout the story, but the combat also ended up being a highlight. With the different set of character skills and dodge/parry system keeping me engaged pretty much at all times. Enemy turns end up playing like a rythme game when the enemy patterns click and it is very satisfying. Only downside to me was doing too much side content before the last act had me a bit overpowered, but I have read it is quite common in JRPGs. But great news: I was definitely NOT overpowered for the final optional boss...
