You are given an idiot hero and a stupid companion and are then forced to take everyting that isn't nailed down and "apply" these items to others. Who would think to apply a hammer to a door to make a plank so that you can rescue your useless companion? And so it goes for every item - some blindingl obvious some of which would require a few quarts of alcohol to stumble upon. Bah humbug!
