I gave a 3 star review to the original game, because the story was linear and predictable. I eventually got bored and never finished the game. This DLC feels as though it was written to address all my concerns about the base game. Interwoven quests -- you can't finish all questlines from all factions, because they are fighting one another. No faction choice is the obvious powergamer way to max. It's an interesting world, on top of the already-excellent tactical turn-based combat and movement. Recommended.
This game is a mellow interactive movie. There's no real risk, not much branching. Drive your Blade Runner hovercar around a dystopian future. I saw several 1-star reviews not from verified owners, so I checked the Steam reviews before buying this, and they are Very Positive. My guess is that some of the content upset the Alt Right Whine Brigade. But whatever your voting politics, if you're comfortable living or working in a diverse environment, I don't think you'll have any issues with the content. The dialog is not professionally written. The visual atmosphere is 10/10 while the verbal atmosphere is 4/10. But the content is fully voiced. I use the game as a way to relax after a long day.
There's lots of low ratings, and lots of high ratings, and I think I know why. This game is great for tactical tabletop enthusiasts, and meh for anybody else. The game reminds me a lot of Blackguards -- the story is window dressing in between battles. If you enjoy dice combat, you'll love it. If you like character development, choice, mystery, you might be bored. For me, it's a good time sink. I don't think about the characters at night, the way I thought about some of the Pillars of Eternity characters who were professionally written. There isn't much lore in Solasta. It's just fun to kill monsters for a bit. I doubt there's much replayability. The story is pretty close to linear. A good first effort. Worth the money imo. I hope the studio's next game is better.
I was scared to buy this because there were so many bad reviews, but I liked Spell Force 2 so I gave it a chance. And it's the best game I've played in a long time. It's got heart -- an "it" factor a lot of games don't have. The voice acting is immersive. Watch a let's-play video if the other reviews put you off, see if it might be for you. I'm surprisingly happy with my purchase.
How can there be so many good user interfaces on the market, and this is still unintuitive, with no undo, and lots of weird bugs even in version 3.0? I'm uninstalling. I might try again when version 4 comes out. Only buy this if you expect an early-access game -- and I'm saying that after all the upgrades and DLCs.
Fun RPG. Three main classes, lots of multiclasses. Three crafting systems. Quests have content, not just fetch this or kill that. The one-star reviews are not talking about the game, and the low average rating I see right now does not do the game justice.
This is a fantastic casual strategy game, easily five stars. However, the story mode is 3 stars at best, because the design of the quest for the "good ending" is horrible. If you read a guide you will see what I mean. You have to wall off certain buildings so that no faction can touch them, not even you, until something happens, then you touch the buildings in a special way. And it keeps going like that. There's no way a real defender of a city would make any of those choices. I recommend you buy the game for the quick play strategy, and read a guide on how to solve the "Monkey's Blood" quest, before deciding whether to invest the time in Story Mode.
