Baldur's Gate 3

Didn't say wow this many times before

This game is a masterpiece and pushed the boundaries of how an RPG can feel like. If you are not afraid of the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset and turn based is not an absolute no go this game will blow your mind. It is beautiful, witty and bold. It is full of suprises. If you played a lot of games before, you are accustomed to many unspoken rules. Baldurs Gate 3 throws them out of the window so many times. Really refreshing. So many situations ended that I was looking at the screen saying "WHAT? Really? Are they allowed to do that? Am I allowed to do that?" I play this game in coop which is also a great experience other games in this genre don't have. And it works fantastic. But there are also some shadows casted into the gameplay. One of the stronger selling points of the game, the Dungoens & Dragons license, is also its biggest weakness. It is a complex ruleset made for a tabletop game NOT a video game. Baldurs Gate does a great job to cover this up. The last game from Larian Studios "Divinity: Original Sin II" showed however how to create an RPG system with throwing everything out which is not fun or doesn't make sense in a video game context. Yes you can do a lot more now (hello jumping and pushing people) but this comes with the cost of an overburdened UI. I was always recommending playing Divinity with Gamepad but I cannot do that for Baldurs Gate. This game is turn based. Some gamers don't like this and it is a valid opinion. Believe me when I say, that the other aspects of the game (exploration, hilarious dialogs, real freedom of choice) are so excellently executed that it is worth playing it anyways. Think of Mass Effect where the shooter part was also just meh but the rest was so amazing you played it with pleasure.
