Victoria Complete

Requires a Wrapper

Runs fine on Windows 10 but you will likely need to use a wrapper such dgvoodoo in order to get it to run at the intended frame rate. If you can handle that I think this should run fine on modern windows, contrary to some of what the other reviews state.

Ion Fury

Easily on par with the holy trinity

Wonderful throwback that is easily on par with the holy trinity of build engine games and in areas like level detail, exceeds those games. Feels like a game pulled straight out of 99 in an alternate future where Half Life hadn't yet altered the trajectory of FPS games for years to come. Great roster of weapons, excellent sound design, music, and visuals all in levels that would have brought your Pentium 90 to it's knees. My only gripe is that many of the secrets require a bit more effort than I'm willing to put in to find them with the game teasing me that I've missed over half of them as I leave the end of each level. If you've enjoyed any of the build engine games in the past, this won't disappoint.

Shadow Warrior Classic Redux

I prefer the Dos release

The actual game of Shadow Warrior is excellent and is my favorite out of all the build engine games. This Redux edition is done by the same people who did the Duke 3D Megaton edition and like that game this source port features odd technical hitches where the framerate doesn't feel as smooth as it should, pretty bad mouse lag issues with v-sync turned on and an overall feeling of being not quite finished. It's by no means a bad way to play the game but you can't help feeling a little disappointed that a nearly 20 year old game isn't running completely smoothly on today's very powerful hardware with mouse look that actually feels worse than the dos release combined with bmouse.exe. If running the game in a widescreen resolution is something that is important to you, then this is the version to get. It's still perfectly playable despite the issues I've mentioned. I think the build games look their best at a pixelated 320*200 however, so I prefer to play SW in DOSbox.

Raiden Legacy

Great Games, Not so great emulation.

The Raiden series of shooters are some of the best you will ever play. Great power up system and a crushing difficulty. However, it is quite apparent this collection is just the games running on MAME packaged with a modern front end. The games will frequently hitch in frame rate and a lot of screen tearing is present. The games are most certainly playable and the music has been tweaked to sound much nicer. It's just disappointing that the games run no better that just playing them on MAME directly.
