Could have been much better...

Settings, background, lore : it's intriguing and appealing, even disturbing. Graphics : nice pixel art, love the custscenes that reminds of the good ol' days. Music : great score by Carlos Viola, add a lot to the atmosphere. Gameplay : much much to be desired... The combat system itself is quite rewarding and satisfying, i love the impact of the hero's sword on the enemies, and the various combo, skills and power are really fun to use. But the controls are very clunky, moving your character often leads to frustration, grabbing the edges of platform is a complete mess, ladders are a real pain, and some special moves like the air impulse is a sick joke. On top of that, hitboxes are often ludicrous (remind me Hollow Knight a lot), and many bugs are still around (i played with the 3.0.32 version) : I ended stuck in mid air less than 2 hours after beginning the game (!), It's quite easy to crash the music, and often, the pad is stuck on vibrating. A last note about completing the game : it's really frustrating when to reach specific ending (i will not say good as twisted the game is) you have to google for it 'cause there's no fricking clue that tell you how to do it. I cas miss/forget some infos, no problem, but having to die several times with a specfic item equipped before moving to the next step ?? Come on...

Furi

Great art and OST, flawed mechanics

Furi is hard, very hard, cannot deny it. You can (and you will, if you're persistent) improve every time, but it IS demanding. Alas the game is also very tedious and repetitive. The bosses are as different as they are similar : every battle relies on counter-attacking, trying to be bold is completely useless : at best, your attack is deflected, at worse, you get hit. Except on the not-so-many "shooting phases" where you gradually lower the enemy health bar at a distance with your gun, you will always wait for an opening, while parrying or dodging. To have to always rely on this strategy through the entire game is a real disappointment. This lack of variety really contradicts the design of the game, with each scene being unique in his presentation and atmosphere. The "walking simulator" cutscenes between fights clearly add something to the mix, the voice acting is great, the characters having a great deal of punchlines to throw at you. This review cannot be complete without a word about the OST : all the artists have done a superb job, with a special mention to Carpenter Brut and Waveshapper (but all in all, nearly all the tracks are top notch).
