Smugglers V

Scratches that itch

I'm really looking forward to Star Citizen. Trading, fighting and boarding ships for capture. That's years away though. This little turn based gem can scratch that itch here and now. In combat you get little attack buttons, like in FTL. They randomly get selected and move from right to left in a line across your screen in combat. You have to time your attacks based on what attack options you have in total, and keeping in mind what attack options your opponent has. You can also move around the attack buttons keeping in mind you loose the one most on the left each turn. This makes for some very good tactical turn based beard strokage. I'm captured about three ships so far. I find it a bitch to do, but feels great when you pull it off. You can also click on the radar screen and select who you want to go after, so if you want to take on a bigger ship in the hopes of the ultimate upgrade, you can. If you want to bully smaller ships, you can do that to. Slowly building up your resources to for that next big ship capture. I bought this for 5$ on special. It's taking up all my game time and keeping my Steam list gathering dust. I recommend it. Get past the graphics and there is a solid casual game underneath.

King of Dragon Pass

Made a jaded gamer crack a smile

Made a jaded gamer crack a smile I’ve been buying new game after new game lately, looking for something fun. Day Z was it for a while until everyone started using hacks. Queue a few more impulse buys, Cortex Command or FTL. They’re fun, but it wears off quick. Then boom, out of nowhere, I stumble across this relic with mostly 5 star reviews. Text based game where you have to learn the lore to progress, thus enabling yourself to be drawn in further. After right click enabling XP compatibility, it runs smooth on my Samsung windows 7 ultra book. Also really enjoying the background art to the text screens. Recommended.

Space Rangers 2: Reboot

Space Rangers 2 - A nice surprise

Synergy - may be defined as two or more agents working together to produce a result not obtainable by any of the agents independently. Thats what this game is. A grouping of charming little mini games added to the main game skeleton, to flesh out to a living breathing game world. Quests optional, you're not forced into anything. If you can get past the isometric 2d interface, and dust off de ol imagination, this game will suck up hours of your life. I hadn't even heard of this game until it came out on G.O.G. Now I can honestly rank its under appreciated value as high as that of M.A.X 1. Not since M.A.X have I enjoyed so many levels of tactical and strategic beard strokage. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying they're the same kind of game. Just that I have enjoyed the one as much as the other. Space Rangers 2: Dominators, rocks the party that rocks the party.
