I remember War of the Lance when it was its own singular boxed game, sitting on the shelves in all its glory. It was one of the very few D&D-themed wargames of its era, and by wargame standards was fairly serviceable. Its only real problem in that regard was due to the world itself having well-established lore and the War itself being a plot told in novels. That story is well-done by in this game, but it tends to result in lower replay value since the authors laid out the maps in accordance with their intended plotline. This results in only a handful of approaches you can take, and there comes a point where "the best way to win" is clearly delineated. Because of this, and because I never had an interest in any of the other "Silver Box" games (WotL came in a Gold Box for the PC and I was not a console gamer), I have to award this package a 3... and that is me presuming those other games are at least enjoyable. I would give WotL a 4 of 5 were it available as a singular title. If at least one other game in this pack draws you in, I would recommend the purchase, but for WotL alone ten dollars is too high of a price point in the current era.

Never completed the game, had a blast while playing it though - same as I'd say for a lot of games I own. In all honesty, I'm putting in this 5.0 rating because after checking why this game was only rating a 3.9/5, I found a metric crapload of 1/5 ratings where the actual description was of a 3/5 or even 4/5 game. There were an equal number of half-arsed non-reviews which also threw in a 1/5. It looks like this game got review-bombed to push it below the 4/5 rating it actually deserves.
