After playing a few hours of the 1.0 version, I must say that this game is pretty good with some rough edges. From my perspective there was quite a learning curve at the beginning, but once I got used to the controls and learned some little tricks, like slowing time in sea battles to be able to aim better, it got a lot easier, and after sinking an invasion fleet on my own, and shooting an ork in the face with a musket, I can say that will be having quite a lot of fun with this game. Another thing I like are the noticeably different playstiles depending on if you play as an independent or a chaos champion. The first plays out like the usual pirate simulator with a nice dose of Warhammer mixed in. The chaos path means pretty much throwing away diplomacy, trading, etc. to just wreak havoc along the sea. The monsters are challenging, but still beatable. What could need some improvement is the graphic department, meaning for example that the heavy shoulderpads my character is wearing look somewhat oversized. Unless my characters get's burlier as he levels up, or something, I'd wish for equipment that's a bit more to measure. Since the game has just reached a releasable state, I'm looking forward to see what future patches will bring. Until then I will have fun with the game, because it definetely is fun.
Since I started playing, I've been going from loving to hating this game and back again. It's great to see my ship and crew make it yet to another sector, and then, Baaammm!!! Something disables the shields, the enemy boards my ship and kills one of my favorite crewmen. Or destroys the whole ship. And for some reason I just cant help from hitting the New Game Button afterwards. As I said it's frustrating and freaking addictive at once.
