Just finished my first game. About 3 hours (could be reduced significantly, 1 hour is really doable), I have won over AI 289:219 (so I cannot confirm that AI is somewhat though, board game rules used). My previous experience is negligible - about 3 board games month ago. As of board game - it is great. As of this application - it basically follows board game experience. There are several rules available - board game rules, electronic rules aiming to speed up using async turns. There is even something like single-player campaign. Big drawback - the game is really unstable, it crashes every hour or so. Singleplayer utilizes autosave but multiplayer is probably unplayable. Two stars down.
